Tatting and a lot more!

At the weekend we held an Art and Craft Exhibition in one of the churches. It was an extremely successful event with a lot of items on show, many of which were for sale and  a good many were actually sold.   Here is a table with some tatting and other craft items on.

You  will see a bag on the table, I have now made two more of them,  but this one was actually sold at the weekend.

Here are the others

The one on the far right is in the process of being made.  Notice the many buttons  sewn on the bags!

And talking of buttons this is what I also made for the exhibition. Someone who lives in the village was very interested in the items which included buttons as she makes wedding bouquets with them.  She also wants to learn to tat, but first I have some buttons to give her that are no use to me, looks like we are heading for a 'button afternoon' before the year is out!

I am hoping to get back to some serious tatting soon as there is a lot I want to make.

  1. It must be a case of Great Minds thinking alike! - since you and Jane are both making bags. It's wonderful that people actually bought the tatting this time, very encouraging. Congratulations.

Now, I ask you; are these words not uttered at some point by EVERY single tatter throughout the realm of Tat-Land? : ))

    1. Too right those words are Fox and it is so frustrating when you can't sit down and tat because other things are taking over your life - sigh

    1. Thanks Madtatter, but I have discovered that there are people who don't like buttons - I think one of them is my son as he thought the picture was awful or was that because his mother made it?!!!!

    2. May be that it :) I have a daughter too and sometimes we go to store to look at buttons. I think we have a problem, we like bottles too!

    1. Thanks Anne the darker ones on the chair are made using material from Nigeria and the one half made on the right is material from Indonesia. Um you are encouraging me to continue!

  6. I'm glad you had sales! I can imagine being indifferent to buttons, but not actually disliking them.

    1. Jane the event was part of a well advertised and organised Arts Festival in and around our nearest town, it included a great many events in different venues (drama, art, music, exhitions etc) so people could enjoy visiting as many as they liked. People were looking for good quality exhibits and they were not dissappointed - nor were we!

    1. Thanks crazy mom, yes they are coasters, but surprisingly they did not sell, but they seem to come in very useful for displaying items!

    1. Yes it is one of them! I put it up for sale but obviously it was quite expensive, of course it did not sale so giving it to a friend as she has a table that is just right for it.

  9. I am SO impressed with your bags (you and Jane are going crazy!) , and with all those buttons! For some reason I have an aversion to do any kind of mending and also don't like to sew on buttons, even though I use needles and thread for cross-stitch and quilting (of course) and don't mind sewing in my 'tatted ends'. (I do use long-eyed needles and easily thread them with a 'flat' metal hook.)

I think the key here is that they are part of your 'decorations'. So I admire your patience in sewing on so many buttons and especially am in awe of the Question Mark! I had to read twice that it was something you made for the exhibition! I'm sure it garnered a lot of attention - very clever and 'thought-provoking' - and a lot of buttons! Is it sewn down to material and in a frame?

The wood coasters look great, and that doily is outstanding! I really don't know where you find time to do so many things! You and Jane are blessed with some kind of 'energy' vibe that I don't have!

  10. Thanks Kathy I too hate mending and especially having to sew on buttons that have become loose. I glued the buttons on a board for the question mark, sort of cheating but it does look effective.
As for time and energy, slowing down at the moment we have a heat wave and also in the middle of another exhibition, this time a History and Heritage one!

    1. The pink one sold and it was my favourite too! Must look out for some bright material! I hope you do get your machine out, mine is over 30 years old but it is doing well at the moment.

  12. I was quite relieved to read that you glued the 'question mark' buttons to a board! Wonderful idea! I don't consider it cheating at all! And a great way to 'display' buttons which otherwise would be sitting in jars.

Those events of yours sound quite fascinating!

I'm surprised you're having a heat wave after all that rain this year!
