Masquerade and TIAS

After noticing that Jane had started to tat  Mary Konior's Masquerade I decided it was worth trying as it looked so effective.  The pattern certainly stands up to its name because as you join the squares together it seems to turn into something else.  Amazingly it disguises the original design and you notice other shapes appear.  I have now joined six squares and plan to continue until there is a reasonable size mat.  I am using a ball of DMC 30 because I have quite a lot of it but I am aware that this particular mat will not grow that quickly!

Also found time to join in my with my sister's TIAS and this is the progress so far after day 3

I really enjoy tatting with buttons so of course in my element with this one, thank you Jane.

  1. The navy blue is nice, I love that pattern but haven't tried it yet.

    1. What is good about it is that you pick up the pattern fairly quickly without having to refer back to the book

  2. What a dramatic pattern Masquerade is - it would make a stunning tablecloth, if you get that far! I'm finding the TIAS a bit of a challenge this year, but will press on hopefully.

    1. Yes it would look stunning as a tablecloth. The TIAS I find very easy this year but that is because I am used to working with buttons

  3. Masquerade looks wonderful! I have tatted individual motifs, but I've never joined them. Maybe I'll try when I finish my doily. I'll need to look at today's TIAS. I'm a bit behind.

  4. It would be very interesting to see the Masquerade in 2 or more colours, highlighting some of the designs that are going on within, wouldn't it ?! A very very interesting pattern & so well tatted :-)

    1. I had thought of doing that Muskann and still may do, although have just joined another solid colour as I was getting bored with the original - so the piece is certainly evolving

  6. Ooh, I'm excited to see this! I plan to show mine tomorrow. At one stage I thought I'd make a long runner, but I might be getting a tad tired of it, may stick to the original idea and frame it. I've thought about the 2 colours thing, it may not be as simple as all that.

  7. I, too, have always admired the photo of Masquerade in the book, but never gotten around to tatting it. It's definitely on my bucket list, though.

LOL, I always assumed you were the test tatter for all the TIASes!

    1. Definately worth tatting Miranda.
Oh and yes you are right I did test tat this TIAS - so you can bribe me to tell you what it is going to be!!!!!!!!!!

    2. What would tempt you? Beads? Skeins of HDT?

Just kidding! I enjoy the guessing just as much as the tatting, and besides, Jane would never speak to either of us again!

    3. Oh my goodness, I just remembered, I actually have tatted Masquerade! I was reminded of it when I checked my blog stats to see what pictures of mine people have been pinning on Pinterest, and that was one of them! I only did four squares of it, but I used two different shades of blue, which made for a slightly different effect.

    4. Oh goodness me it would be awful if I spoilt Jane's game and she would not speak to either of us again if I did. Strange how we can forget tatting something but easierly done. Tempting me to try two different colours!
