A bit of sparkle!
I was given this metal cross some time ago, it had a ribbon to attach it around the neck. Although I was never happy with the ribbon, so decided to tat a cord using split rings with beads in the middle. Since doing that I have worn it a lot and somehow it seems to have enhanced the cross and made it more elegant.
You can't see from the picture how the stones glitter, which is a shame.
This is a brooch I bought at a Summer fete last month, fell in love with the sparkling stones and found out that it is a Vintage piece dating from about the 1970s and was sold by Avon the cosmetics company. I paid a princely price of £1 - bargain?
They are not pieces that you could wear together, but separately brighten up many an outfit.
LOVE the star. I'm JEALOUS.
ReplyDeleteBoth are lovely. The cross with tatting is gorgeous! I think I wouldn't have anywhere to wear the lovely Avon pin but my great Aunt (who taught me to tat) would have told me to put it on every day- "What are you waiting for?"
ReplyDeleteMichelle thanks for encouraging me to wear the pin more, it will certainly show up on dark Winter clothing and that is what I intend to do, agree with your Aunt no good putting such beautiful things away out of sight!
DeleteThe last picture looks like the old 70's clock remember?
ReplyDeleteYes it does look like a 70's clock, well spotted.
DeleteI love your tatted chain for your cross! I sold Avon very briefly in the mid-70s. I mainly did it so I could afford to buy their "beautiful" jewelry... until I discovered that my skin and their jewelry didn't work well together.
ReplyDeleteDiana from what I believe vintage Avon jewelry has become collectable, you should have kept yours even though it did react to your skin. I don't think I would have bought this brooch in the 1970s because of course I would not have been able to afford it, but somehow it just looks better out of its era like a lot of things do these days!
DeleteI love the necklace you made for the cross! At first I thought the cross was tatted, too! You have a perfect match!
ReplyDeleteI'd certainly wear that beautiful pin! I love pins and scarves and often wear my old jewelry from way-back-when. I still have an Avon pendant/locket that held perfume (1966)
And the reference to the '70s clock set me on a search of the basement for our own sunburst wall clock. Actually those big showy clocks were also around in the '60s, as we received one as a wedding gift in 1964) We had it in our first apartment and put it away in storage in the '70s when we built our house and I changed furniture styles. I wanted to make sure we still had it - and we do! It is 2 feet in diameter and is a combination of brass and walnut. These are the kinds of items I can't part with! Thanks for the trip down memory lane and the discovery that we still have our clock!
Thanks Kathy.
ReplyDeleteI remember those clocks and glad you have still got yours and found it again. I hope it is going back on a wall.
It is strange how after many years you look on things differently. I would have never bought that brooch in the 60's or 70's because it would have been too expensive to buy but also not quite my taste. But now all these years later it seems like a work of art, the style and the workmanship make it stand out and it is really beautiful. I guess we look at a lot of things differently as we get older.
