An old project

Thank you for your comments regarding the lavender sprigs, I haven't been able to make the bags to put them on yet, but I will in time. Tidying up a bedroom and decorating it, meant sorting out some long forgotten tatting, which needs some TLC (Tender Loving Care) in other words finished!  This is a necklace which was sadly abandoned because of various issues.  I cannot bear to destroy it so hope to resolve the problems I had with it and complete.

We all have given up on a piece of  tatting at some time or another and I know how hard it is to re visit, wish me luck!

  1. It certainly s beautiful now, I hope you can finish. I did a monumental clean out this summer and finally cut the thread on too huge pieces, one over 25 years old (the house and the room is was for are no more...). In a way it feels good...

    1. Painful cutting thread on those pieces, but there does come a time when you have to give up on something and forget about the time and effort that it took. Well done you were very brave!

  2. I do wish you luck! Could you perhaps repurpose it instead of just continuing where you left off?

    1. Karen, it is finished! Will post soon. I can't remember where I bought the thread from, but it is hand dyed.

    2. Congratulations! I was quite sure you could do it.
Thread reminds me of one of Yarnplayer's and was wondering if it is her HDT.

  4. I missed the lavender post somehow, have just gone back to find it. I like your tatted sprigs! Clearing out is a two-edged sword, you find so many " lost" patterns and then if course nothing can be thrown away anyway! As far as abandoned WIPs go, I have hardly tatted anything for a very long time because I came to a grinding halt on my Big Black Doily and I never begin another project until everything is finished! It's the thread, I hate black threads!
I've tried so many brands, and I have come to the conclusion that it's the dye which makes the threads so coarse and unpleasant to work with. But black it has to be, so I must finish it.

    1. Maureen you sound very disciplined! I hope you get back to the 'Big Black Doily' soon so you can finish it and start something else.

  5. Ah! I think we all have those projects. If I ever get around to doing a good clean-up, I'm sure there will be projects tossed because I no longer remember what I was doing! The thread is beautiful!

    1. Diane a clear up is very therapeutic, actually not doing it, but the result. Strongly advise you to do one and get rid of stuff that is taking up so much room!
