Paisley
The paisley pattern looks like a twisted teardrop or kidney shape and is Persian and Indian in origin. Quilt makers sometimes call the pattern "Persian Pickles" and the Welsh name it "Welsh Pears". There is a town called Paisley in Scotland but not sure what the connection is, if any to the place. This motif is one of Mark Myers designs AKA Tatman and I just added beads. My aim was originally to sew them on to a plain skirt but gave up the idea as it did seem a never ending task. It is a very clever pattern and I recommend it to you to give it a try, I intend to make more in the future.

So my delight was to see that Jane had made a bag and tatting pouch out of some paisley material, very chic.
For me the word "Paisley" evokes those wonderful fabrics that Liberty of London make. I was in the big city last month and took a photograph through the window of this scarf. I was with two fellows so was not allowed to go in!

I do love that design of Mark's. Very pretty in those colours. Funnily I've just cut out another roly poly in a purple paisley - just got to cut out the lining and the sew it.
ReplyDeleteI love paisley designs! I have Mark's pattern, but haven't tried it yet. I guess I should!
ReplyDeleteThat paisley motif is just gorgeous! I think I'd be tempted to make a hair clip out of it. I love the vibrant colors.
ReplyDeleteI love paisley too but I'm also picky about them. I love that pouch Jane made too! Dan, the Tietmeister, has a paisley pattern on his site that I've been wanting to make for a long time but it's a very old pattern and will take some time to sort out so I haven't yet. Maybe next year. LOL!
ReplyDeleteI just love that Paisley motif and the colours are just lovely.
ReplyDeleteLovely paisley you have tatted, make me tempted to tat it too!
ReplyDeleteYou are stronger man than I am, Gunga Din, for being able to walk away from that beautiful scarf - I think I would have climbed over the men to get to it!
ReplyDeleteLove the colors you chose and added beads. Always a plus. I tend to not design with beads (GASP). And it goes so well with the paisley roly poly bag. Lucky you to get this one. That is beautiful material. :)

Like Gina, I have had Dan, the Tatmeister's paisley pattern "in the wings" for ages. Must try Tatman's as I love, love, love his patterns!
ReplyDeleteAnd then, I have been attempting to design my own paisely. But it is doubtful that mine will be anywhere as polished as either of the previous two.
Thanks so much for sharing!

Lovely post, everything is so pretty.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteThis post caused me to go on a mad search for a pattern of Mark's I thought I had but could not locate. And this after I performed a HUGE organizational blitz in my apartment with all tatting stuff!
Jacobean Spray.... Found it! Thanks for the reminder. Your paisley did it. I forgot I even had it!
