Diamonds are forever
Which should instantly remind you of the James Bond Film!
But these diamonds are a little different, obviously not the real thing, just the diamond shape. They are from Jane's pattern which you can find here but as you can see I have added a few beads. I have also used two different shades of thread, but the distinction between the colours does not show. The pearl beads were made in Korea and a year ago this week I purchased them from China Town in Singapore - in fact from The People's Park shopping centre which is where Wendy likes to shop and those who are looking for tatting supplies.
The pearl beads are added to the self closing mock rings and you can find this technique here. I am still working on these diamonds and hope, unless I get distracted or just too busy, to finish the project before the week is out.
We ('Im in the garage) and myself are still working on items for the Art and Craft Exhibition in the village, there is no competition involved just a place for people to exhibit what they have made and also sell them if they want to. It takes place next month but so far we have very little entries on paper, although quite a few people have promised items.
Another exhibit which 'Im in the garage has made is this dog a 'kumiki' or a Japanese interlocking wood puzzle. I have yet to learn how it fits together, too frightened to take it apart to show you at the moment!
This dog has ebony wood as its eyes and is made in mahogany and beech, he now has a mate as we plan to let people play with one whilst the other dog remains intact.
Ah, I've used that pattern of Jane's many times, but never thought of adding beads! You're an inspiration.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jane, it is such a clever pattern and I wanted to make something very special with it.
DeleteI know we've talked about the beads in the SCMR over the past few days but I had honestly forgotten that I'd done a page on the technique!!! Ain't I a dozy old moo? I'm hankering now to have a go at these again myself. Hope you get to finish the project to show us all.
ReplyDeleteNow that I have done a few of these beads in SCMR it is becoming so so easy. again thanks for the pattern and the technique
DeleteHi Sally
ReplyDeleteI love your dog puzzle and what a good idea to have his/her pal as a guide to all who try to work it out!
Many years ago whilst on holiday in Norwich we bought a circular wooden jigsaw, the creator called it a "Trigsaw". It's 4.1/2" in diameter, and consists of six iterlocking layers, the second layer is not flat but, to add to the frustration, undulates! It is carved from rosewood which is lovely to handle. It has given us many happy hours of puzzling! I can let you have a photograph of it if you would like one for "Iim in the garage"!
Anne when the dog is in pieces there is no way that I can figure how to put it back together again, waiting to have lessons from the person who cut it all out! Your "trigsaw" sounds fascinating, would very much like a picture of it although I doubt 'Im in the garage can make it as he needs exact measurements. popabobbinshuttle@gmail.com
DeleteNice diamonds and love the dog! actually take pictures of it as you take it apart and that will help. :)
ReplyDeleteHopefully lessons from the dog's master will help before it gets to the stage of photographs - but might have to resort to that method!
DeleteYour diamonds are beautiful and i am intrigued by the purple blooms too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute dog. I would not mind playing with it too. All the best at the craft exhibition.
The plant is called 'black lace" it has exotic dark foliage and gorgeous pink flowers. Will try and get a photo of it before the flowers disappear which they are starting to do now. Thanks for your good wishes for the exhibition.
ReplyDeleteI love the diamond motif- it looks gorgeous (and now there's the James Bond music in my head!!!)
ReplyDeleteThanks Michelle, it is funny how music gets stuck in your head!
DeleteBeautiful beaded tatting, Jane! Looks like a great pattern.
ReplyDeleteIt is a great pattern Fox, you should try it.
DeleteYes, I know! No sooner had I written the comnent then I realized you would respond exactly as you did. : )) yet another pattern on my HUGE pike of waiting-to-be-tatted items.
DeleteThat person in your garage is a genius. I understand that you lock him up. Don't want to loose him!
ReplyDeleteCutest dog i have ever seen!
I'll have a look at that pattern,sigh
Tally Tatty he is not actually locked in the garage but in the Winter it can be difficult to get him to go in there! The dog is very cute must show you his mate!
DeleteVery elegant diamonds!!! :) Can't wait to see the finished project!!! :)
ReplyDeleteYou will not have to wait long God's Kid!
DeleteI love what you've done with Jane's diamond motif. And I had to call my husband to the computer to see the dog puzzle. He used to teach Industrial Arts and loves woodworking even though he hasn't done much in recent years. I knew he would appreciate this piece. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThanks Eliz - I am sure the dog is going to get a lot of attention at the exhibition.
DeleteOoh... I feel more earwigs coming on!!! I've done the diamond many times as earwigs, but never thought of putting beads inside as well!!! New Challenge Here I come!!!
ReplyDeleteThey look fantastic!! Well Done Sally!!
Love the diamonds! Great memory of your trip to Singapore! Really curious to see the finished piece! And the dog is just amazing and adorable! Be prepared for a lot of visitors! Hope you take photos!
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favorite motifs to tat. It's always nice to see how others tat it. I think the beads really add to the beauty of the piece. Thanks for sharing the pictures.
ReplyDeleteI do love your tatting, but that dog puzzle is amazing too! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteAh! I want one of those dogs! Does the artist sell them? So cute!
ReplyDeleteAlso those diamond necklaces are stunning. Well done!
