Christmas Ornaments

Every time I think about tatting someone else's pattern to cover  Christmas baubles I seem to come back to my own, probably because I know it will fit the ones I already have.   I now have a box full of baubles covered in tatting, sadly that is where they will  remain as there is no Christmas tree in this house to hang them on, next year is the time to have a grand clear out and give them all away.

Another box contains these

And yet another box contains these

There is a final box of baubles but I don't seem to have a picture of them at hand.

The patterns for the large and very small baubles are on this blog.   I do hope your Christmas Tatting is going well.

  1. One year my uncle made a "tree" for my mom out of plywood. It was 2D, so easy to store. It was shaped like a large triangle and painted green. In each of the holes cut in it she put an ornament. During the season it sat on a table against the wall. Off season, it was covered in plastic and stored.
Perhaps that sort of thing would let you show off your beautiful ornaments?

  2. Thank you Stringy Dogs for the idea, perhaps I could ask 'm in the garage to make me such a tree, certainly low maintenance!

  3. Why is there no Christmas tree?? - actually this year we are not decorating one either! - the new tiny little car is much too small to transport a real pine tree, and although I did buy an artificial one, I found, when I pulled it out of the box, that I simply couldn't bring myself to put it up. I took it down to the Lifeline shop where they were very happy to have it.

  4. Maureen having a Christmas tree is too much of a bother, little excitement as there is no one to see it just us, one visitor (my grown up son), no grandchildren or any children. However, the Christmas pyramid might be put up this year if we can be bothered (will take a picture). You could buy a small pine tree in a pot, suppose it is not the same as a standard one.

  5. So pretty. One year I just hung tatted snowflakes from a wire coathanger instead of having a tree. A shame not to show them off!

  6. I love what you've done! I keep meaning to decorate baubles, and I have quite a few that I purchased for just that purpose. Somehow I never get around to it.

  7. How about hanging them from a ceiling in one of your rooms? My mom does that and it's quite pretty!

  8. Pretty tatting adorning the ornaments ! Love the stars - the 'snowflake' fits in so beautifully.

These would all really look so good on a tree. If not, how about stringing them together like a bunting along the wall or window or somewhere practical? Not much trouble/hassle & you get to admire your handiwork :-)

  9. Thanks for all the suggestions, I suppose Muskaan you are right if no one else sees them at least I can admire my own handiwork, just need to get some enthusiasm to hang them up! I don't feel 'a lot like Christmas' at the moment with a sore throat

  10. Because of our tatting events, my little tree is decorated year-round, and I just store it in our garage with plastic covering. It is sitting in our van at the moment, as we attended a show this weekend (remember Old Economy in 'Ambridge'?) and I can now just put it in our living room and plug in the lights. Otherwise, I wouldn't be decorating a tree, either! (Our outdoor decorations are also easy.) I just enjoy going to the stores and seeing their decorations (I can appreciate them now in December), and we are lucky to be invited to others' homes, so I don't have to worry about company (and cooking!!) We don't have that many gifts to exchange, either! The family has agreed to 'keep things simple'! What I am especially celebrating is the turnaround to longer daylight hours, although winter is only now officially starting!

I would just leave these beautiful colorful ornaments in clear bowls or goblets, or in baskets, just as you have shown them here! They don't need to hang on a tree, although the wood tree would be very unique and special!

    1. I like that Kathy an all year round Christmas tree that is permanently decorated. I think this year the idea of them being in glass bowls and goblets is the best idea, thank you

  11. Why not ask I'm in the garage to make you a stand similar to the lovely one which supports
the Advent wreath? You could then decorate it at Christmas with your baubles, and during the remainder of the year with flower arrangements.
    Hope you soon feel better.

    1. If you look to the right hand side of the blog to where it says Patterns, just above my profile picture - click on to Christmas bauble (circumference 4 3/4") and the 3" one and the blog pages with the patterns on will be displayed.
