Shuttle Disaster
Over the last few years I have accidentally broken two Aero Shuttles and I could cry, honestly I just love these shuttles. So on a tatting facebook site (can't remember which), the suggestion was that Gorilla Glue will solve the problem and make the shuttles whole again. Well being a very cynical person and knowing the strain on these shuttles, as the plastic takes quite a bit of battering when the bobbin is moved in and out, I can't see it working. But never giving up hope I noticed the glue was on sale in B & Q a huge DIY store which is very local to us. So here are the two shuttles waiting for repair. I hasten to add not by me, I can't cope with the delicate and safe way of applying this type of glue. My experience is slap it everywhere, so I know that if I used it, many other things would be glued together, not just the shuttles!
You will also see in the picture another Aero Shuttle (not broken) which I won on e.bay not so long ago, but it has a slight purple tinge to it, different from the grey of the other two. I found this very strange and wondered if at the time of manufacturer the dye had been different, but at least I am able to distinguish it from the others!
I am still making Celtic snowflakes using so many thread combinations
I first heard of gorilla glue when we were in Cincinnati years and years ago. Patrick used it to fix everything!!!! Mainly toys at that time.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could watch some people that use these type of shuttles. I can't seem to get them to work for me, but I do love fixing things with that glue :) I love the colors and am amazed at how the colors bring out different things with these flakes, just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on using glue, I avoid it at all costs. I hope you can find the right person to do the job and that it's successful. One of my aeros is cracked, but I go on using it. Sometimes thread gets caught in the crack when I'm joining but otherwise it works fine.
ReplyDeleteI hope the Gorilla Glue works well. I wonder if a thin, flexible bit of plastic glued over the repaired section would help it hold....? Good luck....hope it works. The snowflakes are beautiful. I was NOT going to start yet another project, but yours look so nice, I just HAD to print the pattern today and will try for a snowflake each week....that should help fill my almost-empty gift stash by next Christmas.

Oh thanks for the excellent advice Stephanie, have just located a suitable bit of plastic, I think!! You really must start on the snowflakes soon. I usually leave my Christmas give-aways until the last minute and it gets stressful tatting them in time, so hoping to have a huge amount for later on in the year.
DeleteIf I ever see it at the store in the "TV" commercial ad ailse, I'm going to buy that glue that comes with a little ultra violet light that won't cure till you use the light on it. That could prevent a problem for glue being stuck together everywhere. If you don't use the light, you can just wipe it off. Glues everything, apparently. I actually went to buy gorilla glue six months ago, and found there were so many versions I just left.
ReplyDeleteYikes I hope this is the right version of the glue. That light also sounds good, even more scary now the thought of using this glue - will publish progress!
DeleteI wonder if the purple-y Aero is one of the Made in Mexico shuttles? I think I have one the same in my box, but it's not on a card so I can't confirm that. Do hope your repairs are successful.
ReplyDeleteMade in Mexico Maureen!! Hope not it says Aero England - but who knows?!
DeleteReally really hope the repairs are successful too!
I hope the gorilla glue works! I've heard great things about it, thought I've never used it myself. I really should try those snowflakes.
