Bags and Buttons

Thank you for your comments after I showed you the tatting around the buttons in the last blog post.   This is what I wanted them for, to embellish a couple of bags I had made.  Big sister Jane gave me a bag of these buttons not so long ago.  They are quite dull and uninteresting but now they look much better and go exactly with the colours on the bags.

Both these photographs were taken outside, at the same time, but somehow the colours have come out differently!

  6. You're right - perfect use for the buttons! That's a lovely peach colour fabric as well, was it originally something larger that you cut down to make the bags? I have a couple of really enormous damask tablecloths which were my mother's - quite useless now, but every time I think about taking scissors to them something stops me - I can't do it!

  7. Thanks everyone for your kind comments, I'm pleased the way the bags turned out. Maureen in answer to your question the material was brand new still in its packet and was a valance for the top of a curtain, a long quite narrow strip. I bought three of these packets from a stall at a Summer Fete at a great price. However, after making the two bags could not face more as the material is quite thick. The other packets went to Jane but were returned (unopened) as the material is quite challenging to work with. I have now handed them to a friend who has other ideas for the material. As for your dilemma with the damask
tablecloths can quite understand, it would be good to find a nice home for them, but not very easy these days.
