A Bargain!
There are quite a few charity shops in the area I live and I am always in and out of them looking for tatting books or shuttles. This week I found these two shuttles in the Red Cross shop. They were in two separate cellophane packages and priced at 50 p each which is an incredible price for such gems. One end of the blue shuttle is open too much and I suspect that the pins holding it must have become a bit lose, but that does not matter as it is obviously quite old.
After a really hectic week I hope to get down to doing some tatting this weekend, well after I have painted a few fence panels! This is what I have started, Jane's doily.
Her instructions are always so easy to follow but somehow I got in a real mess with this pattern, probably because I just was not concentrating and read them wrong.
That blue one must be well loved.
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about doing Jane's doily, looks good so far. If it needs a lot of concentration though, I may have to wait until summer.😀
Well Michelle I find the doily needs a lot of concentration especially now I have started on the next bit, not memorised it yet either especially the corners, a really clever pattern though.
ReplyDeleteWhat an incredible bargain!! - a milward for 50 p, that's a real treasure. I'm waiting for the doily pattern to come on Jane's site, even if it's difficult, as you say, Jane's directions and diagrams always make sense.
ReplyDeleteAlways fun to see a shuttle deal and they look great! I always go and look but have not had luck that way! Your tatting look great and even if it's wrong maybe you can just start a new pattern :)
ReplyDeleteI have yet to find an old, well-loved shuttle when out shopping, but then I don't go out shopping very often. I know I'd be thrilled to find those two shuttles!
ReplyDeleteGood find. Jane's pasterns are clear but not necessarily easy!
ReplyDeleteI can't find Jane's pattern for this very nice doily. Can you give me a link , please?
ReplyDeleteChristine you will not find the pattern yet as she has not put it on her website. As her sister I am often privileged to have a go with patterns before they are given out to everyone else!
Deleteoops I had no idea you were sisters!!! thank you for your answer I will keep an eye opened :p
ReplyDeleteLooks like you are off to a pretty good start on your doily!! :)
