Button Brooches

Tatting these brooches is one of my favourite projects, because not only are they fun and use buttons and beads but also there is actually a demand for them, which means I don't have to stock pile as many as other things I make.

I use Jane's pattern which can be found here, but do not put the extra dangle bit on as that would not fit the packaging I have for them.

Another great advantage is that I can make one in an evening whilst watching television  without having to follow a pattern, for it has become well memorised!

    1. Actually Michelle once you have the beads loaded on the thread it is quite quick, there are a few joins using beads that are not on the thread but thats all. Give them a try!

  2. Really lovely, I'm not surprised there's a demand for them.

    1. Thanks Jane it is good to find a tatted item that most people would be happy to have and wear.

  3. The photo really shows off the sparkle! Love them! I have been wanting to make these fabulous brooches for the longest time! I wondered how you can do them so quickly, especially with the beads! Your answer to Michelle has inspired me! And I like your packaging! Are those pouches available at craft stores?

    1. Go for it Kathy, the first one might take you some time to make but after that you will be fine. I did get the packaging from a craft and book shop but then they stopped selling them. Then I found the pouches on e.bay under wedding favours for putting candy in.

    2. Thanks for the info! I wonder why these 'pillow boxes' are only found on Etsy or ebay and not in craft stores like Michaels, JoAnn's or Hobby Lobby. They seem like perfect packaging for smaller items.

  4. I've long admired this pattern. I guess I should give it a try!
