Mixing threads

Here are a few snowflakes that I have made by tatting with two threads wound together.


Just love how they have turned out .





















I have used 40 white or coloured thread together with these  sewing cottons 










This is what happened when I scanned the snowflakes, the colours seems to have been washed out of them!




I intend to use them for decorating Christmas cards.

    Really pretty. Interesting, I’d have expected the white to dominate more. What size is the white thread?

      The white thread is 40, 20 would probably work but as you say might loose the glitter effect with a thicker thread

      It really is fun playing with different threads and matching colours together you get some very interesting combinations, please do give it a try, worth the effort!

    What fun snowflake thread! It always takes me 2 or 3 scans to figure out what settings my scanner needs. I'm usually tatting as I scan so the experience doesn't devolve into frustration. Good luck with your scanner!

      I used to scan all my tatting but now think a photograph is just as good since phone cameras have improved massively. This was a scanner at work so did not have time to fiddle around with it!

    Great idea, Sally. To increase the glitter effect, you could possibly use two metallic threads with the No. 40 cotton --> three threads.

Renulek Doily finished

I finished this doily a few days ago but I am actually not that happy with it, the thing is the  piece really needs damping, blocking and a good press.  This should not be needed but I think some parts of the pattern did not work that well.  I have used three makes of thread on this doily Manuela, Coats and Lizbeth all 20.
