Crochet Shawl

 So the granny square blanket that I showed you a few posts ago actually turned into a shawl and I am so pleased with the result. It is lovely to have around my shoulders now the evenings are getting chillier. 



The photograph was taken in this building, called the Cider House, where we were able to spend five days last month surrounded by amazing countryside.

    Oh that’s a lovely shawl! Good that squares can be arranged in different ways to create different shapes.

There are many reasons I have not kept up this blog, one being that I have to now recover the email that was originally used to set it up, so not exactly sure if any comments will be seen or recovered.  The other is that I keep up numerous facebook accounts (other groups) plus twitter and instagram so not much room in my life to blog! Diamonds are forever

Which should instantly remind you of the James Bond Film! But these diamonds are a little different, obviously not the real thing, just the diamond shape. They are from Jane's pattern which you can find here  but as you can see I have added a few beads.  I have also used two different shades of thread, but the distinction between the colours does not show. The pearl beads were made in Korea and a year ago this week I purchased them from China Town in Singapore - in fact from The People's Park  shopping centre  which is where Wendy likes to shop and those who are looking for tatting supplies. The pearl beads are added to the self closing mock rings and you can find this technique here.  I am still working on these diamonds and hope, unless I get distracted or just too busy, to finish the project before the week is out. Poppies

It was May when we first decided to organise a poppy cascade from the tower of a very old church to commemorate the WW1-100.  We asked the community to knit or crochet poppies and by the end of October over 4,200 had been donated.  Some even came from the USA where a family who used to live in the village had moved to.  How to construct the installation took a lot of thinking about, but finally it all came together and at the beginning of November it went 'Over the Top'.  That is the name we called it, as those who fought would say those words as they climbed over the trenches into battle.  Over the last ten days it has rained and the wind has blown but fortunately the cascade has remained in place, although a bit soggy!    The porch was also decorated.
